The Project

With an emphasis on encouraging wise and sustainable farming methods, SUREPASTOR is a project aimed at improving the sustainability and resilience of agro-pastoralism in the Mediterranean region in the face of climate change.

The initiative aims to strengthen agro-pastoral systems in Mediterranean areas that heavily rely on traditional small ruminant breeds grazing on marginal lands. By improving resilience to climate change, the project seeks to support local economies and protect vulnerable ecosystems in four key countries: Italy, Tunisia, Morocco, and Egypt.

SUREPASTOR focuses on optimizing grazing management in rangelands and underutilized marginal areas, while also addressing the socio economic challenges faced by agro-pastoral farmers.

The project is committed to making this sector more attractive to younger generations and women, fostering inclusive and sustainable agricultural development.
By integrating traditional practices with cutting-edge agronomic, zootechnical, and smart farming technologies, SUREPASTOR aims to boost productivity, improve environmental outcomes, and elevate product quality.
Additionally, the project seeks to combat desertification and other climate-related threats by introducing advanced monitoring tools to safeguard reliable grazing resources.
Through these efforts, SUREPASTOR contributes to a more sustainable and innovative future for Mediterranean agro-pastoral communities.
